Fall Edition 2023

Recruiting for the Cause!

We are all in the business of finding future educators! Whether we are recruiting them to consider App State as 18-year-old high school graduates, 30- year-old community college transfer students, or mid-career residency licensure students, we are looking to engage with those who want to make their teaching dreams a reality. In our public schools. you are all looking for future educators, as well! Whether you are connecting with them in Future Teacher Clubs, Teacher Cadet Courses, CTE courses, on the ball field, in the supermarket, or on your sub list--you are constantly looking for student-centered future colleagues who may be willing to consider the profession. We ALL need more good educators in our contexts for one good reason--our children deserve the best!

As you engage in another year with the RCOE Public School Partnership, we hope to partner with you to find and prepare the best educators for your classrooms. Through events and programs we are putting in place and/or refining over the years, we hope to provide two-way, collaborative programming in which we co-create solutions to our work force needs. Through the AppVisory Board, Program Advisory Teams, Teacher Cadet Partnerships, NC New Teacher Support, HR Roundtables, EdTPA support, student field trips, site-based App State guest speakers, Lab School discussions, the Innovation Expo, and Mini-grants, we hope to provide outlets for you to express and receive support as you problem solve to meet your districts' needs for recruiting and retaining the best possible human resources for your schools! We also hope to celebrate those partnerships this year as we continue to grow together and learn from each other!

For more information about the ways in which the Reich College of Education can continue to support you in 2023-2024, we will keep you up to date with our comprehensive weekly RCOE Connected Newsletters, produced each week from the office of Dean Spooner:

We look forward to our continued partnerships in 2024! Happy Holidays!

The Public School Forum of North Carolina has published the 2023 Roadmap of Need, a whole child needs assessment for North Carolina youth presenting county-level data and rankings.

RALEIGH, NC (November 10, 2023) – The Roadmap has been redesigned since its last publication in 2020, and now features interactive online maps, data tables, and county profiles available on the Public School Forum’s website. The report will be produced biennially moving forward.

To establish the rankings the Forum used 20 indicators of wellness across 5 domains: economic development, physical health, mental health and safety, education inputs, and education outcomes. These five domains capture the interconnected conditions and resources that are necessary for a child to succeed, both inside and outside of the classroom.

A whole child needs assessment is critical to understanding what is needed for each child to have in order to thrive in school and in life, making this report a vital resource for policymakers, school leaders, out-of-school time providers, funders, nonprofits, families, and the public.

“The Roadmap continues to highlight disparities across the state that influence a child’s ability to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. It is our hope that local advocates and lawmakers can use this resource to address the needs specific to each community,” said Public School Forum Policy & Research Manager Elizbeth Paul.
