Engaging Opportunities!
Dear P-12 Educators,
Are you interested in co-constructing learning experiences, assessments, and field experiences for pre-service teachers in order to collaborate for a mutually beneficial relationship between the Reich College of Education and P-12 Schools? Would you be excited about being a part of a problem-solving team with members of the Reich College of Education?
If so, we are looking for P-12 educators and various other students and partners who would be willing to serve on a Program Advisory Team and meet 2 times a year virtually for meaningful, collaborative discussions and planning! Your voice and input are so valuable to us as we prepare the most informed future educators for our schools and communities!
We will hold our meeting this semester on Feb. 21st from 4pm to 5:30pm. Please consider this opportunity! If you cannot participate this year but know of a colleague who might be interested, please pass this link on to him/her. Thank you!
Please fill out THIS FORM by February 16th, and a Zoom Link will be sent to you to attend the second Program Advisory Team Meeting of the 2022-2023 school year! Thank you!

The Gravity Games is a real-world experience in which students from across the state use STEM lessons (science, technology, engineering and math) to build and race their own gravity-powered cars down Ashe Avenue’s long hill in downtown Lenoir, cheered on by hundreds of fans as music and other festivities unfold nearby. Registration for the 10th running is open. Organizers encourage teams to get on board and to spread the word. Images are here (courtesy of Google). Since launching in 2010, the NC Gravity Games & Street Fest has enrolled more than 500 student teams from across the state in its STEM competition and entertained tens of thousands. Sponsorships of $1000 are available to help offset materials and travel costs for teams from diverse parts of the state, or to help teams make the jump from the Kit Division to the even more challenging Engineered Division. MELT 2023 Summer Math Workshops
Since 1998, the Mathematics Education Leadership Training program (MELT) at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, has provided cutting-edge professional development opportunities for K-12 mathematics teachers and community college faculty through MELT Summer Institutes. This summer, MELT continues to provide week-long, residential and online Summer Institutes focusing on the mathematical and pedagogical content knowledge needed for teachers to assist their students to succeed.
Please note that MELT Summer Institutes are not only for math CEUs. Some Institutes provide CEUs in digital learning, and general CEUs. Each MELT Summer Institute provides participants with the opportunity of earning either continuing education units (CEUs) or graduate credits.
Registrations are coming in for the 2023 MELT Summer Institutes. Click on this hyperlink to reach the MELT Summer Institutes webpage and find the registration tab on the left of the screen or use this link for the Registration Form. Last year, almost 200 teachers, coaches, and curriculum personnel attended MELT Summer Institutes. You are encouraged to begin exploring and making your summer PD plans. (All registrations are first come, first served.)
Please note these major changes from previous years:
(A) MELT will provide Summer Institutes in both BOONE and HICKORY, NC.
(B) MELT will be following a four-day (Monday-Thursday) schedule.
In February, we will finalize hotel room rate agreements with local hotels in Boone.
