September 2021

A Region to Celebrate!

As we bring back students and staff this year, we are also bringing back celebrations, events, gatherings, sports, traditions, and opportunities! How blessed we are to live in a region rich with valuable resources, strong communities, eager partners, and visionary leaders! Our teachers and students are surrounded with people, schools, and organizations who want them to succeed!

The Reich College of Education is certainly cheering on our colleagues, friends, and partners in the NW Region of our state! We would like to offer our congratulations to Blue Ridge Elementary in Ashe County Schools and Elkin Middle School in Elkin City Schools for being recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools! Your hard work and attention to the needs of all students is certainly paying off and worthy of celebration!

We are also excited to announce that App State ranks among the nation’s “Best” and “Top” colleges for 2021 and 2022, according to USA News and World Report, The Princeton Review, and Forbes magazine. You can read more at https://today.appstate.edu/2021/09/17/accolades. For more information on the events, gatherings, traditions and opportunities happening in our RCOE, check our our weekly September Connected newsletters from the Office of the Dean! Fall Mini-Grant Applications Due Now!

Can YOU use up to $1000 for classroom needs?

The Appalachian State University Partnership Mini Grants are intended to support collaborative projects between Appalachian State faculty members and our Public School Partnership members who are connected to practicums, clinical internships, professional development opportunities for teachers, and/or student learning activities in P-12 environments. The funding for such projects should not be used to take the place of current monies, but should be used to expand or refine existing efforts, and/or to begin new initiatives. Value is placed on projects that involve more than one Partner and/or include collaboration with the RCOE or App State.

Current partnership districts who are eligible for such grants are: Alleghany County, Alexander County, Ashe County, Avery County, Caldwell County, Burke County, Elkin City, Newton-Conover City, Watauga County, and Wilkes County Schools, as well as the NC School for the Deaf, the Appalachian State Academy at Middle Fork, and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
