Setting and Reaching Goals!

Dear Partners,

As we watch the preparations for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, we can't help but be inspired by the stories we hear and the images we see of hard working, dedicated, passionate athletes who have beat all odds to arrive at a place where all of their goals are being accomplished and their dreams are coming true! How exciting, how emotional, how proud we all feel when witnessing such success!?

This year, we will hopefully remove the hurdles of the pandemic and push forward to run a much smoother race than we did last year! As you set your goals high for this summer school season and/or the coming school year, what do you need to make those goals a reality? What resources or support would you request to make your dreams come true? How can the Public School Partnership help YOU be the best you can be? We want to know--and we are here to coach and encourage you through it all!

In the Reich College of Education, we salute your hard working, dedicated, passionate students, teachers, and leaders and we are here to cheer you on every step of the way!

Dr. Betsy Rosenbalm, NBCT

Director, Public School Partnership/Regional Director, NC New Teacher Support Program

The NC Principal Fellows Program Comes to Appalachian State!

On behalf of Dean Spooner and the Reich College of Education, we are so excited to share the news that we were recently named as one of the 6 NC System Institutions to receive the NC Principal Fellows Program Grant for the 2022-2028 school years! Please read the press release information found here:

We will be working with 12 partnership districts to train and support future principals, and we look forward to planning for this collaborative program in the near future! Thank you for your commitment to helping us make this the best principal preparation experience our state has to offer! We will be communicating more details about our next steps in the weeks to come!

Summer Equity Mini-Grants

Congratulations to the following winners of our first annual

Public School Partnership Summer Equity Grants Program!

We look forward to seeing and hearing about how our p-12 partners and faculty members conducted innovative projects to increase equity, diversity, and inclusion practices for students throughout our region!

NBCTApps Update!

We will be offering our NBCTApps Support Group again this school year and we need your help to TAP the next cohort of educator superstars! This is how you can help:

 1) Tell your veteran NBCTs and principals about NBCTApps, and ask them to “tap” teachers they know that they think are ready to start the process! Then you could send me (Betsy   Rosenbalm) their email addresses and I could follow up with an email saying they had been tapped-- that someone truly believes in their potential! Sometimes someone expressing confidence goes a long way in a teacher feeling ready!

2) Follow up with your "tapped" superstar teachers with links to the NBPTS website to explore their area of certification and info on our support program. This could increase the pool of candidates we support even more!

This is a good link for potential candidates to get info from DPI’s website:

https://www.dpi.nc.gov/educators/national-board-certification

At the bottom of the website, it has a link to NB contacts for each district. Most HR Directors are the first contact in the Central Office, but you may have an NBCT who leads support in the district!

3) This is our Public School Partnership NBCTApps website with 2021-2022 info arriving soon! Stay tuned for more details on our support group this school year!

Mountaineer Readers Time!

It is exciting that we are participating in another summer of Mountaineer Readers--AND IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET STUDENTS ON BOARD!

To begin the process for the 2021-2022 year, the media coordinator for each elementary school will want to pass out the student reading log sheet and students will take the reading logs home to complete according to how many pages they read over the summer. Parents will need to verify and sign the form. Media Coordinators can still send these logs out virtually to students through a parent/guardian email blast!

When the students return to school in the fall of 2021,  students will need to turn in their COMPLETED reading logs to the school-level media coordinator by the first Wednesday of the school year.

School media coordinators need to tally the student log sheet totals and complete THIS FORM electronically to submit to Dr. Rosenbalm no later than Friday, September 24, 2021. There is no tally sheet to email in this year.

Dr. Rosenbalm will inform schools of the winners by Friday, October 8, 2021. More award details will accompany the announcement of the winners in October, but please make note that the grand prize winners will be invited to participate in the November 13, 2021 football game at Appalachian's Kidd Brewer Stadium against South Alabama! Here is an additional promotional flyer to find out more about the prizes available to schools, classrooms, and students for reading excellence!

We are hiring! Join our NC NTSP Family!

The NC New Teacher Support Program is seeking to add 3 new Instructional Coaches to the App State Program, as we will be supporting approximately 120 BTs in 9 LEAs this coming year! NC New Teacher Support Program Instructional Coaches manage a cohort of teachers to establish ambitious and inspiring vision and goals, plan purposefully, and engage in data-based problem solving to increase student achievement. The coaches serve to support and develop new teachers, resulting in the short and long term success of their students.

Such Instructional Coaches gain valuable management and instructional leadership experience. They also play an integral role in developing the broader beginning teacher support program by working closely with the NC NTSP statewide staff, school and district leaders, UNC System Schools of Education, and others to ensure that the web of support is effective for new teachers.

These job opportunities will be posted by July 2, 2021 on this website: https://hr.appstate.edu/hr-services/employment. Please share this opportunity with current school or district level coaches and/or administrators across our region!

Learn more about our program at our new and improved website: https://ncntsp.org/

Applications are open for our 2021-2022 cohort of the Education Policy Fellowship Program. NC EPFP has graduated over 800 Fellows and has a rich network of alumni in North Carolina and nationally. North Carolina’s program is routinely held up as an example for its strong curriculum, growing network of Fellows, and statewide reach.

The program is designed for Fellows to learn about education policy issues and perspectives that they don’t typically encounter in their daily work so that they can be more informed, rounded contributors to the critical debates that shape education in NC and beyond. Fellows increase their awareness of how public policy is made, learn who the key players are, and become more confident and involved in the policy-making process. Policy, leadership development, and networking are the three key focuses of the Education Policy Fellowship Program.

Applications are due July 31st, 2021.
