There's No Place Like Home!

We all know the saying, thanks to sweet Dorothy! There truly is no place like HOME. But, what does HOME mean to you? Is it a place where you find support? A place to rest, recharge, and refocus? A place where you feel loved?

As we celebrate our App State Stay at HOMEcoming this year, let it be a reminder to us that App State is HOME to many of us! It may be the place where we first found ourselves, where we were encouraged to set goals and accomplish our dreams, and/or where we found the people that we still love to this very day!

So, let us also be encouraged to continue to seek App and the Reich College of Education as a HOME base for resources, encouragement, a renewed focus, and a place where we can all feel appreciated, loved, and served. We want to be HOME for you and your colleagues, and we are waiting with open arms to serve you!

To find out how the RCOE can specifically meet your needs this month, check out the RCOE Weekly "Connected" Newsletters, featuring news from our own Dean Spooner each week:

And, to read more about what the RCOE is doing to make our students, faculty, staff, and partners feel more comfortable, safe, and informed this fall, both in their HOMES and on campus, see this Fall Planning link.

Carrie hopes to defend her dissertation in the Spring, but due to COVID, she has had to alter to study numerous times. The study is looking at the creation and sustainability of a college-going culture in high schools during a pandemic and seeks to answer the following research questions:

  • How do high schools define a college-going, college, and a college-going culture?
  • How do high school personnel perceive the creation and sustainability of a college-going culture under the influence of coronavirus pandemic?

This study had been IRB approved (IRB number 20-0036).  If you work in a high school, please consider taking a moment to complete the survey linked below or forward the survey to people you know who work in a high school setting.
